Places you'd ride straight past

Tombs older than the pyramids, cycling heroes, folklore and the odd bit of television, from the Magic Road to Father Ted's House. A few, with the bike that got there:

  • Four randonneurs with their bikes under the Sean Kelly plaque in Carrick-on-Suir

    Co. Tipperary

    Carrick-on-Suir honours one of the most successful cyclists of the 1980s.

How it works

  1. Ride to a landmark

    In any order, over as many years as you like. There is no time limit.

  2. Photograph your bike there

    In front of the landmark, and note the date. If the exact monument is hard to find, a photo that proves you reached the site will do.

  3. Finish a province

    Send your log and photos to [email protected] to claim that province's medal. You need to be an Audax Ireland member to claim, and the medals are free for members.

  4. Collect all four

    The four province medals fit together into one national medal.

Good to know

  • Landmarks only change in January. A visit to one that has since been replaced still counts.
  • Some landmarks are remote. Carry lights, food, water and a charged phone, and be ready to fix your bike.
  • Riders share their photos with #brevethiberniae.

Eddie Dunne of Audax Ireland modelled Brevet Hiberniae on the Brevet des Provinces Françaises, a French touring challenge of around 600 sites that is said to show you all of France. He checked the places by bike during two COVID lockdowns.
