Brevet Hiberniae

Audax Ireland’s touring challenge: cycle to four landmarks in every county in Ireland and photograph your bike at each one, at your own pace. The Brevet Hiberniae page has the map and some of the places. This is how it works.

Where: 128 landmarks, four in each of the 32 counties
How: By bicycle, with a photo of your bike at each and the date
When: No time limit, in any order. Landmarks change only in January, and earlier visits still count.

Claim: One province at a time, by email. Medals are free for Audax Ireland members.

Proof of passage

At each landmark, photograph your bike in front of it and note the date. Where the exact spot is hard to find or reach, such as a particular gravestone, a photo that shows you were at the site will do. A Strava link isn’t needed, though it’s a nice record, and riders share their photos with #brevethiberniae.

Riding them

Some Audax Ireland routes are built around the landmarks. The Queen of Connemara 200 takes in Galway’s, and the Marble City 100 and Hidden Heartlands 100 permanents pass several in Kilkenny and the Midlands, so one ride can count for both.

Some landmarks are remote. Audax Ireland’s advice:

carry lights that let you see the road, not just be seen
bring food and water: village shops aren’t always open
take a charged phone, and the tools to fix your bike
have cycling insurance; a Cycling Ireland membership is the simplest way

Claiming a medal

Keep a log
Audax Ireland’s spreadsheet log is on its how it works page, or the Audax.ie tracker builds the claim for you. Back up your photos either way.
Finish a province
Connacht has 20 landmarks, Munster 24, Ulster 36 and Leinster 48.
Email the claim
Send the log and photos to [email protected]. You need to be an Audax Ireland member to claim, and the medal is free.
Collect all four
The four province medals fit together into one national medal.

Who’s done it

It’s meant to take years: Audax Ireland says it “could be your life’s work”. Its 2025 finishers list shows how far riders have got.
