Can-Am Challenge
A 1,200 km event in Canada and another in the United States, both in the same calendar year. Randonneurs USA (RUSA) gives the award, and Les Randonneurs Mondiaux (LRM) lists it among its international awards, managed by RUSA and Canada. It grew out of Réal Préfontaine riding the Rocky Mountain 1200 and Boston-Montréal-Boston in 1997, to bring riders to North America’s long events.

How it works
Ride a qualifying event in Canada and another in the United States between 1 January and 31 December of one year. The year is the calendar year, not the Audax season, so a Canadian event in August and a US event the following November count together. You can earn it again in any later year, and riding more than two in a year still makes one award.
What counts
Any event LRM sanctions in Canada or the United States, which means the 1,200 km and longer brevets on LRM’s calendar there. A 1,000 km BRM doesn’t count, nor does a permanent, however long, and an event elsewhere in North America doesn’t either. The tracker takes an event’s country from where it starts. Browse the World calendar by distance to find them.
Applying
- The Audax.ie tracker lists your rides, ready to copy in, once you’ve done it: sign in. The form is linked from RUSA’s online awards page, and asks for your RUSA member number.
- Only RUSA members can apply. Membership costs $30 a year, plus $10 a year for an address outside the United States (October 2026); join on RUSA’s membership page.
- Finishers receive the Can-Am pin free (“awarded, not purchasable”), and RUSA lists every finisher by year on its Can-Am Challenge page.
- Checking your results shows where each homologation number comes from.
In the tracker
The LRM tab on your progress page shows this year’s two places, Canada and the United States, and the event that fills each. The tracker counts your RM rides of 1,200 km or more, so make sure each has its country set. When both are done, Claims records your claim, reserves the rides and gives you a list of them to copy into RUSA’s page; the claiming awards help has the steps.
