Awards Guide
One of the most rewarding aspects of Audax is working toward awards that recognise your achievements over a season or across multiple years. The tracker supports a range of awards, each with its own qualifying criteria, eligible ride types, and time windows. This page covers the national and season-based awards. For the ACP distance awards (Randonneur 5000 and 10000), see the dedicated ACP Awards page. For the International Super Randonneur, see the ISR Awards page.
Season-Based vs Rolling-Window Awards
Awards fall into two broad categories based on their time window. Understanding this distinction is key to planning your riding.
Season-based awards must be completed within a single Audax season (1 November to 31 October). Your progress resets at the start of each new season. Examples include Super Randonneur, Brevet 2000, Brevet 5000, RRTY, and RRTY 100.
Rolling-window awards span multiple consecutive seasons. Rather than resetting each year, they look back over a fixed number of years from the current date. ACP Randonneur 5000 uses a 4-year rolling window, while ACP Randonneur 10000 uses a 6-year rolling window. This means rides from several seasons can contribute to the same award. See the ACP Awards page for full details on how rolling windows work.
Super Randonneur (SR)
The Super Randonneur is the most well-known Audax award and the qualification requirement for Paris-Brest-Paris. To earn it, you must complete BRM rides of 200, 300, 400, and 600 km within a single season.
- Eligible ride types: BRM only. Permanents, LRMs, and other ride types do not count.
- Distance requirement: One each of 200, 300, 400, and 600 km. Each distance must be completed exactly. A longer BRM cannot substitute for a shorter one.
- Time window: Single Audax season (1 November to 31 October)
- Homologation: All events must be ACP homologated BRM events
The order does not matter. You can ride the 600 first and the 200 last if that suits your calendar. Many riders build up through the distances over the season, starting with a 200 in the spring and finishing with a 600 in summer. In PBP years, completing the SR series is mandatory for qualification, so plan your season carefully and have backup events in case of a DNF. See the PBP guide for more on qualifying.
From the road: The tracker records Super Randonneur automatically when you complete all four distances. The achievement appears in Achievements, while Progress moves on to the next disjoint SR series you can build in the same season. No claim form or confirmation is required.
4 Nations Super Randonneur
A joint Audax Ireland / Audax UK challenge that adds a geographic dimension to the Super Randonneur. You must complete the full SR series (200, 300, 400, and 600 km BRMs), but each distance must be ridden in a different nation: England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
- Eligible ride types: BRM only
- Distance requirement: One each of 200, 300, 400, and 600 km, each in a different nation
- Geographic requirement: Each ride must start and finish in a different nation (England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales)
- Time window: Four international Randonneur seasons (earliest qualifying rides: 2024-25 season)
- Substitution: No substitutions. A 600 km BRM cannot replace a 300 km BRM for this award. Each distance category must be completed exactly.
This award requires planning across multiple seasons and countries. You might ride a 200 in Wales one year, a 300 in Scotland the next, and so on. The four-season window gives you flexibility, but you need to be deliberate about which events you enter and where. Check the Audax UK and Audax Ireland calendars for events in each nation.
The events can be completed in any order and any combination of distance-to-nation. The tracker optimises the assignment automatically, so if you ride a 300 in Ireland and a 300 in Scotland, it will figure out the best allocation.
Brevet 2000
A season-based distance accumulation award. You must accumulate at least 2,000 km of qualifying rides within a single season. This is the most accessible distance award and a natural target for riders who complete a full SR series plus a few extra events.
- Eligible ride types: BRM, Permanent, LRM, Flèche, SR600, PBP
- Distance requirement: 2,000 km cumulative total. Individual rides must be at least 200 km.
- Time window: Single Audax season (1 November to 31 October)
To put 2,000 km in context: a full SR series (200 + 300 + 400 + 600) gives you 1,500 km. Add a couple of permanents or an extra BRM and you are there. Distance accumulates throughout the season, so every qualifying ride you complete adds to the total.
Brevet 2000 and Brevet 5000 are mutually exclusive. If you reach 5,000 km, you receive Brevet 5000 instead. You cannot receive both in the same season. These are end-of-season awards: after 31 October the tracker automatically records the applicable highest tier.
Brevet 5000
The larger season-based distance accumulation award. You must accumulate at least 5,000 km of qualifying rides within a single season. This is a serious commitment that typically requires riding most weekends and several longer events throughout the year.
- Eligible ride types: BRM, Permanent, LRM, Flèche, SR600, PBP
- Distance requirement: 5,000 km cumulative total. Individual rides must be at least 200 km.
- Time window: Single Audax season (1 November to 31 October)
Reaching 5,000 km in a single season means averaging roughly 420 km per month for 12 months. In practice, most of the distance comes from the main BRM calendar (March to September), with permanents filling the quieter winter months. A PBP year helps significantly: the 1,200 km from PBP alone covers nearly a quarter of the target.
From the road: Use the projection toggle on the Progress page to see whether your planned rides will get you to 5,000 km. If you are short, the calendar award impact preview can help you find events that close the gap.
4 Provinces
A geographic award specific to Ireland. You must complete at least one qualifying ride in each of the four Irish provinces (Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster) within a single season.
- Eligible ride types: BRM, Permanent, LRM, Flèche, SR600
- Distance requirement: Events must be at least 200 km
- Geographic requirement: At least one qualifying ride in each of Connacht, Leinster, Munster, and Ulster
- Time window: Single Audax season (1 November to 31 October)
- Permanent restriction: Normally all events must be calendar events (BRM or LRM). Optionally, one event may be a Permanent, but not in your home province.
The main challenge is covering all four provinces within the same season. Check the calendar early and plan which events give you province coverage. Permanents offer a flexible backup for one province, but remember you cannot use a permanent in your home province.
Your home province is set in Settings. The tracker uses it to determine which province each ride counts toward and to enforce the permanent restriction. If you change your home province, your 4 Provinces progress recalculates automatically.
RRTY (Randonneur Round the Year)
A consistency award that rewards year-round riding. You must complete at least one qualifying ride of 200 km or more in each of the 12 months of the Audax season, from November through October.
- Eligible ride types: BRM, Permanent, LRM, Flèche, SR600, PBP
- Distance requirement: At least one ride of 200 km or more per month
- Time window: 12 consecutive calendar months within the Audax season (November to October)
RRTY is straightforward in concept but demanding in practice. The winter months (November through February) are the hardest. Shorter days, colder weather, and fewer calendar events mean you often need to rely on permanents to keep the streak alive. Missing a single month breaks the sequence and you cannot recover it that season.
The tracker shows your current streak on the Progress page and highlights which months are covered. The Achievements page tracks your longest-ever RRTY streak, so even if you do not complete the full 12 months, your progress is recorded.
From the road: Plan your winter months early. Identify a permanent route you can ride in November, December, January, and February. Having a reliable fallback route means bad weather or a cancelled event does not break your streak.
RRTY 100 (Randonneur Round the Year 100)
A more accessible version of RRTY with a lower distance threshold but wider ride type eligibility. You must complete at least one qualifying ride of 100 km or more in each of the 12 months of the Audax season.
- Eligible ride types: BRM, Permanent, LRM, Flèche, SR600, PBP, BP (any ride type counts)
- Distance requirement: At least one ride of 100 km or more per month
- Time window: 12 consecutive calendar months within the Audax season (November to October)
The lower distance threshold and wider ride type eligibility make RRTY 100 more achievable than RRTY, especially in winter when a 100 km BP or permanent is much easier to fit in than a 200 km ride. It is a good stepping stone if you are building toward RRTY in a future season.
RRTY and RRTY 100 share the same pool of qualifying rides, but the same ride cannot be used for both awards. If both are ready at once, Claims shows RRTY first. After those rides are reserved, RRTY 100 is offered only when a different set of qualifying rides still covers all twelve months. The awards remain independently claimable. See the Claiming Awards guide for details on mutual exclusivity.
SR600 (Super Randonnée 600)
The SR600 is a lifetime achievement award for completing a Super Randonnée 600 km route, a challenging ride through mountainous terrain with significant climbing. Unlike other awards, the SR600 is not about accumulating distance or completing a series. It is about finishing one specific, demanding ride.
There are two formats, reflecting a change in how SR600s are organised:
SR600 Original
The original format: 600 km permanent routes with at least 10,000 metres of total elevation gain. These are ridden individually on a date of your choosing, with no group start. Two modes are available:
- Randonneur mode: 60-hour time limit, similar to a standard BRM
- Tourist mode: Minimum 75 km per day, allowing a more relaxed multi-day approach
SR600 Original rides completed before 1 November 2022 counted toward ACP distance awards (ACP 5000 and 10000). After that date, they no longer contribute to ACP distance calculations, though they still count as SR600 completions.
SR600 Modern
The modern format: 600 km BRM calendar events with at least 8,000 metres of elevation gain, organised as official BRM events with a 40-hour time limit. Because they are BRM events, modern SR600s count toward ACP awards when completed.
- Eligible ride types: SR600 Original and SR600 Modern
- Time window: No time limit (lifetime achievement tracking)
The tracker records each SR600 completion separately and shows your history on the Achievements page. Well-known SR600 routes include the Vosges, Dolomites, and Pyrénées.
From the road: You will not find SR600 as a ride type to select when adding a ride. The tracker derives it automatically from the elevation gain you enter. A permanent with 10,000 m or more of climbing is classified as an SR600 Original. For the modern format, add the ride as a BRM and enter 8,000 m or more of elevation.
Ride Type Eligibility Matrix
Not all ride types count toward all awards. The table below shows which ride types are eligible for each award. A ✓ means the ride type counts; a ✗ means it does not.
* SR600 Original (permanent format) counts toward ACP distance only for rides before 1 November 2022. † SR600 Modern is not a separate ride type — it describes any BRM with ≥8,000m elevation and ~600km distance. These rides count as BRMs for all award eligibility and are also tracked as SR600 achievements.
Planning Your Season Around Awards
Most riders target two or three awards per season. Here are some common combinations and how they fit together:
- SR + Brevet 2000: The natural pairing. A full SR series gives you 1,500 km, so one or two extra rides gets you to 2,000 km.
- SR + RRTY: Requires planning the winter months carefully. Your SR rides cover four months, but you need qualifying rides in all twelve.
- SR + 4 Provinces: Works well if you are willing to travel. Some of your SR rides can double as province coverage.
- Brevet 5000 + RRTY: The ambitious combination. Chasing 5,000 km naturally means riding every month, so the RRTY streak often comes along for free.
Remember that a single ride can count toward multiple awards simultaneously. The tracker handles this automatically. See the Tracking Awards guide for how multi-award contribution works.
